10:30 AMMUSIC: LANGUAGE OF THE SOUL
Joseph Gascho, director of music, the TUUC Choir & the Schmitt-Peterson family dedication
Claudio Monteverdi, the first great composer of operatic music, said, “The end of all good music is to affect the soul.” This morning we shall experience the good music of our TUUC Choir; dedicate Cecelia and Nate Schmitt-Peterson to the care of our religious community; reflect on music as the language of the soul.

10:30 AMTED SORENSEN: UNITARIAN SPEECHWRITER FOR OUR FIRST CATHOLIC PRESIDENT
Rev. Clare Petersberger, the TUUC Bluegrass Ensemble& the Hancock family dedication
This morning, we dedicate Sean Hancock (whose father was a member of our TUUC Young Adult group several years ago) and enjoy Bluegrass inspired by music of immigrants from the United Kingdom and Ireland. It seems a good morning to reflect on the son of Danish and Russian Jewish immigrants who grew up in a Unitarian church in Nebraska; continued to attend Unitarian congregation as a young adult; and went on to become the speechwriter for America’s first Catholic president (who was of Irish descent). As a denomination, we are small in numbers. But as Ted Sorensen’s life illustrates, the influence of our way in religion is far-reaching.

10:30 AMWHY PRIDE?
Led by Worship Associate Daniel Everitt andmembers of the Interweave Committee
Previous services which have focused on GLBT (gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender) issues addressed issues of shame, both internal and external. As we come closer to the Baltimore Pride weekend celebration (June 21 & 22), whose theme is ‘Live, Love, Be’more”, it is a good time to take a good look at the question of “Why Pride”? Does the GLBT community have any more or less reason to feel proud of themselves? For those of us who grew up being warned of the “sin of pride”, how do we now integrate a healthy sense of self-pride into our broader sense of responsibility towards ourselves and the community at large? How should a vital sense a self-worth manifest itself in our daily living? What must we as UUs explicitly do to foster an atmosphere in which pride can not only grow, but thrive?
