Honey in the Rock for All Our Children: Biblical Literacy for Unitarian Universalists

Led by Joyce Duncan, CRE, Adan Ayala, Spice Kleinman, Lelah Mahoney, and the members of the YRE program

To “worship the golden calf,” “to welcome the prodigal son,” “the apple of my eye,” “my brother’s keeper”: many of us use these phrases and others without realizing that we are quoting the Bible. Why do Unitarian Universalists learn about the sacred texts that underlie our history and customs? The living tradition of our Unitarian Universalist faith draws from many sources, one of which is Jewish and Christian teachings that call on us to respond to God’s love by loving our neighbors as ourselves.  Youth Religious Exploration classes, Pre-K through high school, will share what we have learned about our fourth source through art, song, and story. Join us as we explore the “honey in the rock” from which our faith tradition has sprung. We also honor our teachers and those who have completed our Coming of Age program this year.

May 27, 2012:  One multigenerational service at 10:30 AM

A Parable on Sacrifice

Memorial Day is a holiday to remember and honor soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.  What can one man's ignorance teach us about the value of sacrifices and the true character of those that make them?  Come join us as we explore what sacrifice means and the importance of choosing the best way to honor them.  Lay Worship Associate Tim Boniface will lead.
