TUUC CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
For Accessibility and Inclusion
Our congregation has long recognized the need to improve accessibility to our building and grounds to better live into our values as an inclusive community with Love at the center.
What is a Capital Campaign?
A Capital Campaign is a targeted fundraising effort that takes place over a defined period of time. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for us to come together and invest in the future of TUUC as an expression of our mission and values.
What are the Funds For?
We are raising funds for the construction of an addition on the front (East side) of the church, including:
• a new entrance that will be accessible to all
• a new accessible restroom on the upper level
• a LULA (Limited Use Limited Access) elevator between the upper and lower levels
• a new accessible restroom on the lower level
How Did We Get Here?
We received a generous bequest from the estate of Alfred Bolz in 2023, to be used to expand Unitarian Universalism. The Board of Trustees voted to use those funds for improving the accessibility of our building. Additional gifts designated for the same purpose have since been received.
Feasibility & Concept Design
We convened a team to work on the project and hired an architecture firm, DKMB, to conduct a feasibility study and create concept designs for Phase 1 and Phase 2. Throughout, we have received feedback from the congregation that has informed the process.
Phase 1: Ramp
The first phase improves the ramp from the parking lot to the side entrance, reducing the slope to meet ADA requirements and adding railings, respite areas, and a new door with a push-button opener.
Phase 2: New Addition
The Capital Campaign will fund a new entrance and extension to the church that will be accessible for all congregants, and will include a LULA elevator and restrooms on both floors.
How Do I Give?
You are invited to pledge an amount that you will contribute over a 3-year period. Transferring assets from an investment account or an IRA are options for fulfilling your pledge to the Capital Campaign.
How is this different from the annual Stewardship campaign?
The pledges we receive during the annual Stewardship campaign are the largest source of income for our operating budget. We still need your Stewardship commitment. Think of Stewardship as paying the mortgage on a home and the Capital Campaign as funding a new addition.
Is this for the Endowment?
Legacy gifts to the church Endowment are separate from gifts to the Capital Campaign. Gifts to the Endowment are usually made via bequest, through a will or trust, or by naming TUUC as a beneficiary of life insurance policy.
What is the timeline?
You will be asked to make contributions to the Capital Campaign during 2026, 2027, and 2028. The Board of Trustees will
determine when to advance to the next phase with architects and engineers.
How much money is needed? — Our goal is to raise $875,000.
How will my gift be recognized?
Plans for recognition have not yet been determined, and we welcome your input!
